Have heard disturbing reports the the Red Ensign to be ditched in favour of EU flag. Sad but inevitable. Today/s generation have no idea or interest in the flag and it will just be the likes of us, enthusiasts and ex-seafarers who remember its heyday who will mourn its passing should it happen.
Why should this change be inevitable ?, we are a soverign state and have fought various wars and came to the rescue of our "European Partners" on several occasions to ensure freedom in Europe.
It's time Great Britain stood up for itself & tell these European b******* where to go.
I'm one of 'todays generation' and can safely say that I, and all of my colleagues, would not like to see the end of the red duster. That said - there isn't many ships flying it anymore, even our domestic ferries are quite often flagged out. The red ensign is now for many just a flag of convenience. That is not our fault, but the various governments that have ran this country into the ground.
When I was sailing boats in Canada I never thought that I would sail under the "Red Duster" again.
We were Flagged out to I.O.M. and flew it even though the ship had no possibility of ever getting into that small fishing boat harbour , Castletown. Never even found out where it was.
Was not even a British citizen on board.
