What sort of condition is she in? Could she be "re-activated"?
And given her original role never came to be, was she any good in the role she was employed in?

Nick, she will never be re-activated for sea service although she still provides a valuable service as a harbour training ship and accomodation platform for the sea cadets and other youth organisations from around the world. As for her previous role, I served onboard for 2 1/2 yrs from 82 - 84 including 2 trips to the Falklands were her comms platform proved invaluable. Can't be that many ships left from 82 that are still in commission.

What I think is criminal is that the navy didn't modify this ship to take more weapons. Why no phalanx (fitted for not with) why no Exocets (considering the RNs desire to convert some Leanders to carry these in the 70s? For a ship of this size she seemed under utilised.

Is that flag on the port side ,the F.O flag , ?? i took a photo of her a few years back , and she had one draped over the port yard arm ,if that,s what you could call it , could not say it was flying ,it looked so sad.

It is difficult to make out but it looks like a Rear Admiral's Flag. This would be a red cross on a white background with a red ball in the centre of the upper and lower quadrants closest to the hoist. If only the upper quadrant contained a red ball, it would be a Vice Admiral's Flag. Now I shall leave it to someone far cleverer than me to explain why this ship would be flying a Rear Admiral's Flag. BTW do my eyes decive me or would it be the starboard side?

with a bit of thought on the weapons lay out, she could have been awesome, sea dart seawolf, harpoons, phalanx, plenty of room on her for the extras, even 30+ years later she still looks modern
