I used to live as a youngster in a house overlooking the Clyde but from a slight distance and used to see all these ships passing up and down but never got names. Then I got a pair of binoculars as a present and always remember HAPARANGI being the first ship I saw through them. That was yellow funnel days.....

The second of the eight 'H' boats built to replace war losses. Sister 'Hauraki'
was the first ship to use these meat loaders February 1963.
11,281 gross. 541.3ft x 70.2ft. Twin screw, two x 5 cyl 2 S.C.S.A. doxford diesels. 12,800 bhp 16 knots. Refrigerated space 522,650 cu.ft.
1947 Delivered to NZSC by John Brown, Clydebank.
1966 Tranferred to Federal S.N.Co. (NZSC Managers).
1971 Transferred to P & O GCD
1973 Transferred to P & O S.N.Co.
1974 Demolition commenced at Kaohsiung.

I assume the cranes in the background are working on the approaches and wharf built to serve the Tiwai Point Aluminium Smelter. As the first ship berthed at Tiwai on 22 April 1971 this photo must date from 1969/70.
