I almost made a trip on this ship as third mate in 1968. There was a job as third mate on this ship on the board bound for Australia, and a second mates job on the President Jackson bound round the world. I really wanted to make a trip down under, but the second mates time was important for upgrading my license so I opted for the PJ. Both were good jobs I'm sure, but the jobs on the Australia run were far and few between.

That is where you have to weigh what is more important. . . upgrading the license or a unique experience. . . that would be a tough call. Not sure which way I would go, of course now the passage of time would probably have made me take the trip to Oz. . . .

I recall the Ventura also made stops at Guam and American Samoa.
