Built for HAPAG in 1917 as the 'Friesland' by Bremer Vulcan.
10,923GT, 521' x 64', 3exp (2?), 14 knots.
To Britain as war reparations: bought by the Federal Steam Navigation Co. in 1919 and renamed 'Hertford' (1).
Torpedoed and sunk off New Bedford, MA, March 29, 1942 with four fatalities.
