Is the Squadron number on the funnel yellow? If so, what is the significance, I've only ever seen them in black ?

It's a red number 2. She was Squadron Leader for the Portland Training Squadron at the time. I was on the Dundas at the time, we were members of the Squadron along with Torquay and Exmouth.

HMS Matapan was basically a trials ship at the time though and most if not all of the ships assigned to 2nd frigate squadron we involved in trials or training of some sort or another. At the time of disbandment Torquay, Londonderry and Lowestoft were all members and involved in training or trials. HMS Antelope was an odd one though, not sure how she came to be in the squadron.
