HMS Ark Royal

As the ensign was lowered for the last time, the band played auld lang syne, time approx 11:50am.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Ark now. When Eagle was paid off in 72 it was strongly rumoured that her catapults and some essential equipment that could'nt be used as spares on Ark were still removed and disposed of to ensure the next government could'nt put her back into service. At the time she was in a better material and operational state than Ark and would only have needed a minor upgrade to handle Phantoms. Long live the Ark Royal.

That is what i have also heard about HMS Eagle, she was a far better vessel than Ark Royal, but scrapped the wrong vessel.
