HMS BELFAST (Demasted)

HMS BELFAST (Demasted)

London 9/9/2010
Over the last couple of weeks, the preserved WWII cruiser HMS BELFAST has had her masts removed piece by piece and scrapped. New replica masts have been constructed and these can be seen on the deck of the barge St. Helier, on the extreme right of the photo.

What a pity they could not have substituted tripod masts instead of the later lattice masts. I know that much of her has been changed but this could have been a starting point to get her closer to her original configuration. Cheaper too!
