Hi Kevintoon, it wouldn't be Cavalier by any chance? The only Kelly I recall had
6x4.7's, and was sunk in WWII.

Kelly had twin Mk12 4.7" guns, this ship has single Mk4 4.5" guns and given the date in the '80's it can only be the Cavalier.
Kelly sank in 1941 and the name has not been reused

It is the old Hawthorn Leslie dry dock in Hebburn, not Jarrow. I have edited the caption under the photo.
Thank you for posting it. Shame the Tyneside councils felt that they could not maintain her. She is now in Chatham Dockyard.

The ship has gone to Chatham and Both yards (Hawthorn's and Swans) have now ceased to exist.
Neither the local council nor the government give a monkeys abour either situation.
What hope do we have for this once great maritime nation with "official" attitudes like these?

Even the pink crane in the picture across the river at Swans had been sold and currently is being dismantled together with the Swans floating dock all sold to the Bharati shipyard in India.
