I took this photo from one of CROSSBOW's boats on the way ashore somewhere. As a Sub Lieutenant and Lieutenant I served for 18 months in her 1949-50, under the command of Lt. Cdr. (later Captain) Geoffrey John Kirkby, DSC & Bar - the best Commanding Officer I ever had in 34 years service. He was quite shy and unassuming, but he gave his officers plenty of encouragement and scope for using their initiative, and he inspired a high degree of loyalty in the whole ship's company. CROSSBOW was a very happy ship under his command.
