A sad sight in my opinion. I saw her in the same state in May 1989 and the demolition hadn't progressed any further from when this photo was taken. The white block exposed under the main deck forward is actually the curved front bulkhead of the turret bay from memory.

Although many may argue it is just a lump of steel and it makes recognition easy, to me shots like this justify having pennant numbers removed when ships are disposed of.

Yes, a terrible photo, in that it is like looking at a grim scene, but strangely fascinating to see 'inside' the ship. I agree though, for the sake of dignity, paint out the pennant number.

The eighties were a awful time for our fleet of ships,with a large percentage going to the cutter,s.

I think she might have been the last majot RN warship to meet her demise in that yard, happy to be corrected
