Facinating picture Martin, few pics of Eskimo at Milford Haven are ever seen. One thing I would like to know is exactly what was fired at Eskimo as she never suffered gaping wounds such as what was seen on the Undaunted.

I've been searching quite deeply to find out what finished her off Steve but have come up with a big fat zero so far. Guess someone will pop up with the answer. I've found quite a few sites which state she went for scrap, which I'm assured she didn't, a couple even give the day she arrived at Bilbao for breaking up 19/05/1992.

Cooky, Eskimo definately went for scrap to Bilbao and your date is indeed right. Many assume that Eskimo was sunk as a target as images appeared of her in the Navy News in April 1986 being towed out of Portsmouth for use as a target. Eskimo departed Portsmouth on 16/01/86 for use as a target vessel based at Milford Haven. The Tribal was originally laid up at Chatham but was towed to Portsmouth 19/10/82 for further lay up and use as spares along with Nubian for the 3 reactivated sisters. In June 1985 Eskimo was towed into No 3 Basin for final stripping prior to use at Milford Haven.

The question remains, what weapons were tested on her hull, as Eskimo wasn't sunk and since she survived a tow to Bilbao her hull was watertight. I heard a rumour that her hull was filled with polystyrene (I must stress this was a rumour!!)

Thanks for that Steve, I've had quite a few conflicting reports over some time and I originally thought that was was indeed scrapped but was recently assured by someone that she had been sunk. I will take your comments as positive that she was scrapped. Nice to clear that up.

She was being towed South at the time, I think she was being towed by an RMAS tug, the Rollicker I think. I was on the FPV Vigilant and we were boarding the Stornoway prawn boats working North of the Shiants if memory serves me correctly.
