An interesting view showing the Fairey Seafox on the catapult. This only lasted a very short while, and was the only time that HMS Hood carried her own aircraft. The catapult did not survive the blast from "Y" Turret or the constantly wet quarterdeck at sea.

Yes Roy, it's a wonder catapult launched aircraft lasted as long as they did on cruisers etc.

That "Seafox" isn't a Seafox! The Seafox's first flight was 1936 - the photo shows a Fairey IIIF floatplane on the catapult.

Thanks TJS. I thought I had made an error, but it was late at night and I knew that somebody would put me right.

Thanks again.

Roy.

a few wee facts on H M S Hood dockings at Rosyth
1) 20/01/1920--25/02/1920 number 2 dock coating bottom and preparing for trials
2)15/04/1920 --04/05/1920 no 2 dock tilt test
3)04/04/1921---12/05/1921 no 2 dock periodical refit
4) 10/04/1922--12/05/1922 no 2 dock coating of bottom
5) 17/10/1923--30/10/1923 no 2 dock coating of bottom
6) 7/11/1924---21/11/1924 no 2 dock annual docking and refit
7) 02/11/1925---16/11/1925 no 2 dock replacement of propeller
8) 03/03/1941-----14/03/1941 no 2 dock repairs to o/f tanks and u/w fittings

the large gap in dockings was due to Rosyth being on a care and maintenance period when no large ships were refitted as the yard was more of a scrapyard then
