Was there something inherently wrong with this class of "tidy" boats, or was it down to Defence Budget cuts - that very quickly, five went to Bangladesh; six to Brazil; and, one to Guyana.

It was felt that the threat disappeared with the implosion of the Soviet Union.
It was feared that the Soviet Union could lay sea bottom mines in the Clyde approaches that would only be triggered by a large submerged submarine. These ships were designed to operate in pairs, trailing a sea bottom electronic sweep that would detonate any mine. As they were based on a steel trawler design they were not suited to normal minesweeping work, but were fine for patrol duties in the overseas navies that bought them.
