Seems she was going to fire a live sea dart from this image (live sea darts are white in colour, red and blue coloured ones are dummies and for show purposes only)- see the director on top of the 4.5" gun. Maybe it was during a Joint Warrior?

Nice image

That sums it up just about right Dave. She`s also got her red pennant flying, indicative of live firings, and of course the customary goofers on the flight deck!

Another chance for the MoD bean counters to save a packet, and they let it through their grasp
Hms Nottingham ran aground of Australia in 2002, T45 was well into build by then and the T42 days were numbered, but instead of scrapping her, they fetched her home on a shiplift and paid for a refit, and put her back in service for maximum of 5 years!!!!

And at what cost Cockerhoop? I heard that she was never the same again - her hull creaked and was not centred, not long after she came back into service she threw a prop and was towed back into Pompey and rather that fitting a new one they kept her alongside FLJ for months with a full crew rather that paying her off early!

not sure what the cost was
but i know our gunnery experts had a bit of a job on, they had towed her off the rocks using a rope round the turrret ring base, and it ended up not circular!!!!

what is startling is that she is crawling along...would be a sitting duck during the real thing and the director on the gun is a recording instrument used for calibration and live high seas firings... good action shot though taken from the ships lynx im guessing
