Serves to reinforce my opinion that these ships were pretty ugly, throughout their lives. Designed as a counter to the Russian Sverdlov class. I do wonder just how successful they would of been?

Laid down originally as HMS Bellerophon of the Minotaur Class, which were all to be virtual repeats of the Fiji Class sisters HMS Ceylon and HMS Uganda with 3 turrets. HMS Tiger was launched in 1945, and further work suspended until a much modified superstructure was added 9 years later.

I think it's just a canvas 'dodger' (or screen) erected round the jackstaff guardrails to protect someone (or something).
I actually like the original look of these 3 cruisers, I think they looked quite powerful in this configuration, can't say the same for the Helicopter cruiser conversions though!
