HMS Venus

This was HMS Venus of the Dartmouth Training Squadron on the Swanscombe bouys in the Thames while she visited HMS Worcester from 18th - 20th January 1957.

She was commanded by Lt Cmdr J. W. D. Cook RN an 'Old Worcester' himself. All sorts of 'inter-ship' events were arranged including a Rugby match

Great photo. You can clearly see her original lines. The conversions made elegant destroyers into ugly ducklings but at least saved them from the scrapyard for a few years.

They were indeed a superb looking conversion and quite an extensive one too, the whole of the Topside was removed, the machinery o/h and the Destroyer Drop levelled off and the modified Topside re-fitted.

The type 15 conversion turned obsolete destroyers into first rate frigates, surely amongst the best conversions ever undertaken on a class of RN ship.
