In the foreground it looks like one of the tin tubs thrown together by London & Roch to replace the real wooden boats of the barges. Try sculling one of those on a windy day and you'd never knew where you'd end up..
Good memories there Stan. Being in TS Arethusa during 1956/1958. As boys we used to get shore leave on Sunday afternoons and would walk along the foreshore( smoking the odd *** or two) from Lower Upnor to Hoo seeing many of the old barges in various states of repair. Sometimes We would go into Rochester to the Junior Fleet Club and on occaisions go aboard some of the Merchant ships to try and scrounge cigarettes. Thanks for posting Stan.
