Makes me sad this picture, all those barges taking stuff by river, now we stick it on a truck and add it to the traffic jam heading west out of Hull.
Sam wonders were all the ships / trade went ? it went to Immingham which has a better road network, is the answer Sam.

Also many of the companies serviced by the barges ceased trading Steve. We regularly took sisal/manilla bales to Barton Haven for the Halls ropery, which is no longer. Raw materials to the fertilizer plant now a wildlife park. Also the container didnt help the barge trade. Maybe we should have copied our neighbours in Holland. I have posted a couple of photos of barges taken in Antwerp.
