When gutting fish a lot of the fish sizes were judged by parts of the old wooden boxes. the definition of a sprag was a tail length longer than the box. a cod would be head and tail longer than the box. The smallest sizes were marked on measuring boards which one put on the side of the box but haddock sizes such as good small, medium, large and extra large were for example. The distance between the side straps= small, the distance from outside edge of strap to inside of opposite strap= good small, outside edge to outside edge= medium and so on and so forth.
Its a a cracking photo of the cod just a shame about the ugly bloke holding it ;-]
Only joking mate, I wish you would have thrown us a a few of them undersize ones. You wouldnt get many of them into that empty basket behind you he he[=P]
