Nice image Bobs, Sun London in attendance? This class of Palm Line/NNSL vessels was certainly very handsome indeed.

John - probably memory vapourising but Nnamdi Azikiwe etc? Probably not strictly identical.

Tom is probably referring to the first of NNLs new builds - Ahmadu Bello class -
they also had bipod masts.

This is the best image I have seen of the Ikeja - down to her marks which really shows her at her best. Sister to the Ilesha Palm, these were the last two conventional dry cargo ships built for Palm Line.
Both Nnamdi Azikiwe and Ahmadu Bello were built from the same plans, but had an extra deck of accomodation and a different funnel shape.

No doubt Greenpeace, various other environmentalists, tree-huggers and people with long hair, beards and wearing sandals would in later years have had something to say about the deck-cargo of rather large (Sapele?) logs.

A grand photo of a proper ship.
