My second ore carrier with Commons. (First ship was Afghanistan, my first trip to sea). Sadly lost a fireman over the wall in Vittoria and a young J.OS. died just before arrival Cardiff February '63. So we finished that particular voyage in sombre mood. But had 6 months as 'lecky with great crowd and excellent food. Commons men will surely remember 5 aside football in those cavernous holds?
And before anyone asks, yes it was when we were light ship! Also swimming pool rigged between the hatches.
Regards to all on SN
Only had the goals painted on the forward and aft bulkheads. We didn't bother with other markings! fixed hold lighting was not very good, so I would rig a couple of cargo clusters plugged in at the deckhouses. Now there are some memories: Cargo clusters, kept me going with repairs and more so on the general cargo ships I sailed on after Commons.
