Jeff, she never sailed under the name "Smit Thames". Only the newly build tugs after 1972 would get the prefix Smit. Exception is the "Clyde", who was tranferred into a Salvage Vessel and renamed in "Smit Salvor" in 1974. The only other older tugs who got the prefix Smit were the "Rode Zee" and the "Noordzee", but that was in 1986. At that time the "Tames" was already sold.
When Smit placed the order at the shipyard it was the intention to call her "Caribische Zee", but that never went through. She was named "Thames" from the beginning until the end of her towing career.
