Your granddad's expression seems to transmit his lack of sleep from the confined space found on board! Keep your wonderful photos coming!

Ha, ha! Too true! At 6' 6" he didn't fit most places. One exception was the DC-3 sleepers, where you would get on board at night and the stewardesses would tighten a strap across your chest. In the early morning they would take the prop out from under the tail, and the plane would take off ... he said he was 'shucked to the end of the bunk', which woke him up! They loved this canal trip ... some days they would walk along the path alongside the canal. Other days they would sit on the roof, and watch the beautiful countryside go by.
