My father never commented about any problems with the crane - He just told us about all the other adventures! The trip should have taken three months but took six. I have some more photos on flickr

Just thinking on Doug's comment: The crane structure may have helped balance the ship. When they were getting into Welstpot at New Zealand the seas were very high, they could only see the coast when they were on top of the waves and the bow and stern were out of the water when they were on top of the wave.
