Kweichow

The 1959 built "Kweichow" came from the Taikoo Dockyard, Hong Kong and was one of the regular New Zealand traders for CNCo in the 1960's.

What a small world. I spent a year on the Araluen and six months on the Wairata. To see them together for me, is great.

Have my Dis.Bk.No.R759507 open here in front of me, joined her in Auckland 16mar68 as 2nd.Mate, left at Kobe on 05dec69.

.........perhaps I was on board Wairata when this photo was taken....... was apprentice on voyage to Singapore,Malaysia,India,Ceylon in the mid 1960's. In NZ we called S.Island ports Lyttelton and Dunedin as well as Auckland.

I did the last three trips on Wairata.........and a lot of fun it was........very strange days indeed ! Perhaps I was there also ?

Prior to my time........great shot...........you amaze Dave. Do you have a Shed full of photos of days gone by in Lyttelton ?

Not quite a shedful but a few have survived from the days when you could wander unhindered around the waterfront.
