Designed by Thornycrofts and built 1945-7 this class started with number 4001 and should have been a run of 200 ships but many were cancelled, they were bigger than previous LST's and had better accomodation for longer voyages.

Twin screw, four 440 bhp Paxman Diesels driving in pairs, 12 knots, fuel 22,600 gallons giving a range of about 2,500 miles. carried two 20mm oerlikons, crew 22 men plus 45 passengers
