Ships I've been on has had either winches on deck, or winch houses with the working gear on top, so this one I don't understand. Is it meant to operate in New Zealand waters, and winches therefore to be operated from inside these boxes? However that may be, the family outing that a launch seems to have been in old Blyth is truly charming. Did the onlookers even get inside the property of the yard? Regards, Stein.

I think I see what you mean about the winches Stein. It looks as if the winches for No.1 are up on the mast house but all the others appear to be standard (ie. on the deck.) I would imagine that the winches would be operated from directly behind the winch and the wharfies would have to climb up on the mast house for No.1 hatch operations. Unusual!
