Jan Sanders made those famous Sigma Paint calendars, they are a collector's item. You will always find a can of paint with the "S" logo.

I want one of those calenders!

I am ashamed to admit that it was only now that I realise it was an "S" ....It just goes to show we all see things in different ways.

Have been trying to get a copy of the Calendar with this one on for a few years it would make an excellent framed picture for retiring Mariners.

The Greek letter S is used by this company indeed, thus "SIGMA", this as a result of a merger of 3 paint companies in or around 1970-1972.
The 3 companies were as follows: Pieter Schoen (also called Lilybrand when it concerns marine paints), Vettewinkel (specialised in epoxy coatings) and Varassieau (a French company).
Lilybrand may be known by members who sailed in the 70's and prior, as at that time Lilybrand was a household name in marine paints and to date SIGMA (Dutch) is still number 4 in size of market share.
SIGMA in Greek means merger or get together.

I just scored one of the books on E-Bay. All because of this one picture.

Yes books have been issued covering pictures of these yearly calendars.
On most pictures you have to try and spot the man stirring his can of paint.
In this particular picture you see many cans which is unusual.
It is extremely difficult to score a calendar.
In the old days I used to swap them with one of my company's one.

They look like some of my old shipmates ! - and it's all Greek to me !
