Lorina aground

Lorina aground

I wonder if this is a bulk carrier of 27,476 DWT, built in 1969, and later called the 'Jia Yu Hai'?

Hi Nevasa, you have some great casualty photos and yes, you are right, this is the 1969 built bulker 'Lorina'.
IMO 6916249. Completed in July 1969 by Mitsui Zosen, Osaka (861) as 'Lorina'. 15,919 g.t and 27,476 dwt.
She went aground near Santos, Brazil on 13/06/1977 after her anchor chain had parted in bad weather following her arrival off the port from Norfolk, Virginia. She was refloated on 17/07/1977 and repaired but, alas, I cannot determine where.
My assumption is that following the grounding she was sold and repaired to become the Chinese owned 'Jia Yu Hai'.
There are no activity reports on her for several years, so her continued existence must be in doubt now.
Regards, Rick
