Ah, glorious Pielstiks unmanned engine room, wrapped stainless stell piping, non air conditioned control room, shaft driven alternators, Siemens switchboard and all this in 6 months of hell. Bar and cabins quite nice though. I remember it well though not fondly.
(A) (A) I joined "Luny Mouse" in Jeddah in April 1974, as electrician, expecting to be on the wonderful RAZ to JAZ cruises but after 1 trip came back to Europe with load of Naptha. Walter Flett was skipper and I think John Hoy was C/eng. anybody know different or other names. In a period of 2 1/2 years sailed on sister ships Luminetta and Lumiere, all good ships and crew. I believe these vessels were similar to the BP River class vessels only with Pielstick engines, instead of B&W?, The original turbo chargers were a nightmare. When I was on it we sent a Deck apprentice from Lagos to Jeddah with a spare end case, for a sister ship, as hand luggage:- I don't know how the security and metal detectors would deal with that today.(Jester) (Jester) (Jester)
