Built 1926 6363 grt
Shifting from one jetty to another when she activated a mine..
She was being assisted by the tug Persia of Wm.Watkins Gravesend.
28 crew were killed - fortunately some were ashore.
Persia was sprayed with burning petrol and all six crew died.
Some people on the jetty also killed..
Lunula burned for three days..

Yes Stuart - a tragedy I witnessed as she burned for three days.
On second day I was in sailing barge Celtic with a cargo of timber
from Surrey Docks for Rochester.
As we approached it a tug passed us a line to get us through the
smoke as soon as possible..
On fire the previous day the tug Persia drifted down river and
crashed into Southend Pier.
