Ly-ee-Moon wrecksite

Ly-ee-Moon wrecksite

Below the rocks and seaweed lie fragments of the bow of the coastal passenger ship Ly-ee-Moon.
This fascinating ship was built as an opium transport but became a blockade runner for the US Civil War. At the time (1859) she was the fastest ship in the world paddling across the oceans at 17 knots.

''For reasons unknown, she veered off course ''.... that'll be the last of the opium then..(Hippy)
An interesting and sad end to this fine steamer.

Hehehe, local historians say the captain was drunk and steered too close to shore while others say it was a faulty compass. Alas, we'll never know.
Cheers,
Phill
