Lyttelton of yesteryear

Lyttelton of yesteryear

Lyttelton as it is today seems a popular subject. Here it is nearly half a century ago in1961. Ships fromleft are, Sansei Maru, Kaimanawa, Minchbank, Balong, Hinemoa. The, in my opinion, rather handsome young man at right no longer has any dark hair, not a lot of any colour actually.

Does this guy also have a beer belly, smokes a packet a day , forgets what he did yesterday and repeats his stories over and over again.......
I just ask because I know few people like that.

Amazing you know all these vessels Dave. Did you still have it written on the back of the photo? Com\'on be honest.

I think the hill is full of houses now? Right?

Jan,
Have we met? Fairly accurate description but given up the packet a day. Yep, names of vessels still written on the back.

Dave I was there at this actual point in time........lived Cressy Terrace and have lots of memories of this spot...close by was the Lyttelton Sea Scout boat shed ..did lots of sailing and other good things we do as boys...in a small town like Lyttelton...I also started my smoking career in this town and shipped as deckboy on Maori in 1963...Your photos are a joy..I no longer smoke...but still dream..Thanks for the memories. KPC
