Lyttelton

same series as late 40's view of Napier but lower number. Nearest ship no idea, then Blue Star, Shaw Savill, possible Port Line and inter-island ferry ( two funnels) maybe Monowai pre1946

John,
I think this is a pre-war photo as the Blue Star ship appears to be the "Tuscan Star", which was sunk in 1942. "Tongariro" doesn't appear to have had a well deck forward so I think the NZS ship is probably "Turakina" or "Tekoa". The Shaw Savill ship is one of the company's first motor-ships, either "Coptic", "Karamea", "Taranaki" or "Zealandic". The Port Line ship is one of "Port Chalmers", "Townsville" or "Wyndham" and the ferry is probably the "Wahine" of 1913.

Love pictures of Lyttleton and this is very good - though years before my time. Many thanks for posting.
