M/S Victoria, Union Castle

M/S Victoria, I found this advertizing poster among some shipping magazines/photos, that I bought at a car boot sale. It says that she was sailing for The Union Castle Company.
Maybe you know more.

She was hired by Union-Castle to make a single cruise over the millenium; down to SA along the old mailship route, celebrating the Millenium New Year in Cape Town, then returning along the Intermediate (east coast) route to UK.

As well as repainting the funnel, the plan was to paint the hull lavender, however, the costs were found to be prohibitive.

Hi cockerhoop,
Could not be futher away from Barrow!, I live in sunny Brisbane (Southeast Queensland) however if I get to Barrow I will surely look you up in the Cattlemarket on any Sunday? The reason I have interest in Sea Princess is that I crewed her when P.& O. bought her, amidst a lot of controversy (I might add), she cost a fortune to get right, they had a hard time sorting main engines, main power failure was a daily event , plumbing in crew & passenger accommodation was sabotaged by previous sacked crew, I know she had a pretty hull & was popular with quite a few passengers however she suffered from lack of maintenance by previous owners which is still causing problems to this day! Hence the many different names & color schemes! lol

she also carried the union castle flag just under her name - i have an image of myself in capetown - when she called there at the time - i only found out years after - the significance of the occasion long after the fact - and for good measure the anastsiss was moored just opposite her - happy days
