one of my all time favorites.
it's amazing that as i have travelled scotland over the years i have come across many of the locations used in the film purely by chance.
just superb.
those were the finest days of british film making.

A knockout for both beauty and character! I'm glad she got such a wonderful film to star in. This about does it for me: when I grow up I've decided to be a Pufferman! (Well, anyways on reasonably calm days with warm, clear sunshine and some good taters, bacon, and onions frying in the galley...)
Thanks for a wonderful post!

Far be it for me to correct a scotsman but Para Handy was the skipper of the Vital Spark( TV Series). Starring Roddy McMillan as Para handy, John grieve as Dan McPhail, Walter Carr as Dougie and Alex mcAvoy as Sunny Jim. As You may guess I have the DVD of the few surviving episodes about four in total. I think Gregor Fisher (Rabb) was in a later series.
In "The Maggie" Alex Mckenzie was Captain McTaggart , finest Vessel on the Coastal trade. Paul Douglas was The American. I must add all these old films and series and including "Whisky Galore" are brilliant.

Further to my previous post. On My DVD "The Vital Spark" BBC JW347. Apart from the four surviving episodes there is a promotional movie showing the lads aboard a Puffer with Duncan McCrae as the Skipper and with Alex mcKenzie (The Maggie) as well.
