She had been diverted at short notice to Newport due to port congestion at Avonmouth

Sad to see her without the white band - signs of things to come - all for the want of a few gallons of white gloss. A few years ago I was in touch with Sam Baxter who was captain on her towards the end. He reinstated the white band and displeased management apparently - could anyone confirm this?

Hugh, as the Newport photograph was dated Sept 1973, then May 1974 seems more probable as a reinstatement date. She finally arrived off Gadani Beach 16.6.75 to be broken up. Best regards. Malcolm Cranfield

White line definitely reinstated in '72, Mahseer that year was my last trip on a Brocklebank ship; after that I was asked to join a Moss tanker, followed by another. I can only assume the white line was obliterated in a subsequent drydock when the hull would be repainted. Drydock was every two years and occurred in Summer of '69, I would expect the line lasted until summer of '73.
That class of ship becomes horribly characterless without the white band.
Regards
