Main switchboard

Probably one of the last D.C.switch boards installed on a UK Merchant Ship. Not long after these ships were built, the industry moved over to prdominantly A.C. electrics.

Gotta love the open board with knife switches. Last board I saw like that in service was on the old TEXAS CLIPPER when I was a surveyor. She was one of the old "Four Aces" of Marine Export Line. A reef now.

Blow out coils and Dashpots in evidence, the RN boards had much more bare Brass/Copper exposed to keep you from wearying in the middle watch (polishing live boards)

I remember them well. Last job before docking at home polish the board. Fine Emery cloth on the copper, maybe just a swipe with a Vaseline rag, all done with one hand other hand kept in pocket to avoid a shock.

Cheers,
