Shame about the overside coatings, half renewed boottopping and tired black, because the angle of the photo is spot on. The topsides look immaculate as they would, painted up for the return to UK. Lovely ship, I had the privilege of being third mate on her in '70 for a brief period after I transferred from Makrana. Outwardly they looked almost identical - small differences only; mechanically Mangla was better and newer. Mangla had draft Harp Lager, I preferred the draft Tennants on Makrana (when we had a good keg it was superb, but not all kegs were good). The Harp on Mangla was consistently good. In Glasgow on Maskeliya we supped draft Tennants when I drove in my Mini-van round to Mawana in drydock. She was dry and our pump didn't work, and the customs said ok, go for it. We went for it.
Super photo though, thanks for posting it.

Hi Hugh
I have a soft spot for Mangla as she was my first ship ( coastal ) Jake Donnely was the 2nd Eng and I had the privilage of being on watch with him . I see you spent some time on Makrana : perhaps you met with my brother Cameron who I think would have been 5th Eng at that time ?

Cheers Derek
