MATSUYE MARU

Built 1921 ar Yokohama, GRT 7061. Owners were NYK. Renamed MATUE MARU in 1938.

On April 17th, 1944, US submarine Harder (SS-257), in an attack on a Japanese convoy, sinks the army cargo ship Matsue Maru, 150 miles northwest of Woleai, Carolines, 09°30´N, 142°35´E.

I suggest that she is bunkering coal at this point from the self discharging barge alongside,using what was then quite 'hi-tech' equipment.
