I can't remember anywhere in Port Louis high enough to take this photo ,everywhere seemed flat, where was it taken from? I was there on the Arrino loading sugar for three weeks, it was a welcome change from the previous three months spent up the gulf where we recieved orders to load here for Liverpool. I couldn't believe it when I saw barges heading out to us and then after coming alongside the dockers started opening bags of sugar and pouring the contents into the hold. Great run ashore though, all the money I saved in the gulf dissapeared like the dodo by the time we sailed for Liverpool.
remember standing on deck looking up at the mountains ok big hills, saying i,m climing up there anyone comming.and that was the next run ashore.cant say that we had a good time there.dident have the money.no overtime on that greedy b.....d.only kept the watch on at sea all dayworker had to knock off friday till monday.the wheel went on during night hours,in the middle of the ocean.not what you would call a good trip.even on payoff day allhands 06.00 turn to to get tarps and hatch baords off ready for the dockers, and it had been snowing all night.
