Thanks for this. Signed on as Deck Boy and signed off after 11 month (first trip) as JOS. Very good memories of an excellent crew. The Bosun was Paddy Proctor probably the finest in the company. A legendary wire splicer and acknowledged as such. Would really like to know the exact date of this photograph if possible.
Hi Bill, there was a date written on the back ... 1949.
I managed to get my aunt to loan these to me for a
short while, before she sold them on. It always pleases
me to know that an image brings back good memories
to someone like yourself. Best Wishes, Raymond
This is the way of things ... when we are young and
learning new skills, seeing new places, our world is a
place of adventure. Life gets more complex, and rules
add to the constraint. We get more "kicks in the teeth"
from Life's rich pageant, and then we retire. But, despite
the way it has all turned out, I can honestly say that
Life is truly what you make of it.
I had to retire, through ill health, five years ago, before
my proper retirement age; but I have made use of this
time, and I hope my work of late has been of some help.
Best Wishes, Raymond
