Monte Stello close call

Monte Stello close call

Taken off the South end of Aotea Quay, Wellington, a harbour beacon seems to have been drinking and a yachtie gets a bit too close to a ferry.

Nice photo. I hadn't noticed when I saw her that the windows on Monte Stello's upper decks form strangely angled rows: do the internal decks slope forward noticeably, I wonder? Perhaps it's just exaggerated by the direction of the photo.
Not sure about the yacht being too close. She is close-hauled and may have (sensibly) gone about to avoid crossing ahead of the ferry.

Blimey, those windows do look odd.

And this shot was taken with a long telephoto lens, look at how the ferry itself is compressed. (One reason why the windows look so odd) That yacht's nearer to the camera than you think.

Yes Meechingman, telephoto was out as far as possible. On second viewing the yacht is probably abeam the ferrys' bow thus quite a safe distance but still close enough for a bridge watch to be stationed on the wing to keep an eye on things.
