Moorhen & Flight Decks

Moorhen & Flight Decks

Mooring vessel Y32 - Moorhen at Portsmouth Naval Base 28 September 2006.
Behind in No3 Basin are the flight decks of Invincible (with propeller), RFA Grey Rover and RFA Sir Galahad.
Do not know whose bows are protruding beyond Sir Galahad.
White structure appears to be on barge Longbow, any ideas?

It looks like HMS Edinburgh. I can just make out her masts/radar behind Sir Galahad. She is on the only stretched Type 42 with a different bow.

Thanks ******,
Had forgotten about Edinburgh's bulwarks .Thanks for spotting her. Didn't expect to find her in this parking lot!

Longbow is the testing platform for the T45 weapons systems. She was used previously to test the vertical launched Sea Wolf system. She was laid up in Brixham for years.

Hi Alex
On the subject of the type 45 destroyers, if you look at the funnel of the Sir Galahad, just above it, you can see one of the masts being built for the destroyers, prior to it being put on a barge and towed to Scotland.

There has been a Type 45 combat system integration rig set up on Portsdown Hill overlooking Portsmouth for a few years as well. Driving past with the radio on you can hear the radar sweep. Not sure if its still there?

SIR GALAHAD has been sold to Brazil. Not sure about GREY ROVER and assume that she will be scrapped. The Basin in Portsmouth seems to have a very powerful magent installed as once you are in there it's impossible to get out
