MSC Napoli, Starboard side failure 2

MSC Napoli, Starboard side failure 2

This repeats the earlier posting of the starboard side failure using the same base photo but with finer analytical lines and marking the reference point used in the determination of the degree of hogging as explained in forum postings.

The belief that the aft end has hogged 2 degrees about a sharp point on deck above the hull side split stems from the measurement at point A which shows where the extension of the line of the deck edge in the forward half intersects the drooping rear half of the hull.

The full original photo appears to have been taken from one of the tugs as the tow was getting under way or on its passage up channel. There is no land ahead. From its sequence in the source album the photo time is believed to be pm 18 Jan 2007 or sometime during daylight on 19 Jan before the tow entered Lyme Bay where she was beached in the dark.
