We ran to great ports, Perth, Wisbech, Ghent Antwerp, Rotterdam, the little Cornish ports and even Newburn which is as far as you could get up the River Tyne, about six miles past Newcastle. We often used the canals and inland waterways in Holland and Belgium t

Hello Captkeen
It just sounds like you had a wonderful life on this little ship ,with your wife on board ,your car for touring , and visiting such small ports and canals, certainly happy days,
Cheers

Great picture and proper nostalgia. I too spent most of my time at sea in the small south coast ports Par Fowey Bideford Teigmouth etc happy memories of them all and then across to Antwerp Rotterdam Dordrecht Le Legue St Malo and one of my favorites Ghent. It was in the 80s so we had an ocean going mark 2 Escort instead of the cooper. Hatchboards were heavy and the beams stiff the bilges were horrible to clean and if you were carrying bulk there was the washing down afterwards and not to mention the weather, would I do it again? Yes in a heartbeat no question.

This photograph was taken in harbour in Weymouth Dorset.A rarity these days to
see any small cargo boats in port, can't remember the last one i saw here.
We used to have many ships visit through the course of a year, timber from Scandanavia, wine tankers and the regular summer visitors with the Channel Island
tomatoes were just some, all long since gone.
The Deheer warehouse on the left is now a Cafe Bar and kids adventure play area.

Regards Phil
