Naess Endeavour was owned by Sovereign Shipping Co. Ltd. and managed by J & J Denholm. Built in 1960 by Nederlandsche Dok & Schpsh Mij of Amsterdam. 51,088 DWT, British registered, call sign GHFT. Powered by Parsons Steam Turbine manufactured by the builder developing 17,500 HP at 98 rpm, single shaft. Service speed 16 knots. Tanks 12 centre & 24 wing, 2 pump rooms housing 4 pumps, maximum discharge rate 5,000 tons per hour. Separate stripping system. Butterworth tank cleaning. A big ship for her year of build and a good looking one too. It's certainly not the classic Port Said background to the picture and there's no sign of a Suez Canal Projector in her bow or of any canal boats that I can see so I recon you're right about location. Nice Picture.

Hi alastairjs
I joined her in Rotterdam August 61 so she was still quite new. What happened to her, we were told she was on a 15 year contract, so I expect if that was the truth if she finished it, it would have been sold on like all the other ships in the MN and then ended up on a beach in India.

If I remember rightly at the time there were 2 other Naess ships @ 66,000 tons which could do the Suez light but not laden and one up in the 80,000's and the talk was she was the biggest under the Red Duster outside of the Passenger Boats. Any info would help, it's nice to see what happened to old berths.

Regards Ron
