Ness Yoal
This is the ness yoal the Maggie. She is probably one of the oldest examples of a ness yoal. In 1900 there was a devisating gale in Shetland in which most of the boats noosted up on the East coast were destroyed. This boat was bought by the Halcrows of Ocraquoy, Cunningsburgh from Bigton to replace

This is on Unst, Britains most Northerly Isle. To get to it you have to make 2 ferry journeys from the mainland of Shetland. It is a really interesting place. My poor daughter and best mate had to endure me "examining" everything in depth. There is so much in it, they even have boats hanging from the roof.

Blimey CED - just found that place on the map - it is nearly 180 miles from John O\'Groats and more or less half way between Scotland and Norway. Must have taken you ages to paddle your coracle there from Lerwick. I hadn\'t realised just how remote the Shetlands are.

BTW I am beginning to doubt if you are really a Sanddancer as you and your daughter would have had a bare midriff in these pictures whatever the weather.

The closest railway station is in Bergen, Norway!
There's a lot of Norwegians come over on a weekend (one came over in a 10 foot dinghy!) cos the price of alcohol is so much cheaper.

Benjidog, We have good coracles here to get from island to island! Am part sanddancer so I don't always so show my midriff (perish the thought!) If you really want to gt up a Shetlanders nose then call their homeland The Shetlands, it is either: Shetland or The Shetland Islands.

Ok, I'm probably going to show my ignorance here, but I think you'll find that coracles were Welsh boats which were round. (dunno why they were round, but they were!)

Usually end up going round in circles and gradually dissappearing up our own exhaust pipes! LOL
