Ngataki

The boat on the right is Ngataki designed and build by John Wray from Aucland New Zealand who cruised around in the Pacific for many years. (1930's)

His book "Vagabonds of the South Sea" became a classic and inspired many of us I think. It set mê of to go sailing anyway.

Here Ngataki is racing ag

Don't know the fellow, but the hard-chine amateur build reminds me of Harry Pigeon and his Islander. I'll note your recommendation of his book. The double ender at left, when talking of small boats on long voyages, reminds me of Dumas' Lehg II; but not what inspired that boat: up here even newbuilt Colin Archer's sports gaffs. In this country the "Cruise of the Teddy" by Erling Tambs, and "Round the World with 'Ho-Ho" by B. J. Bryhn have set a few to build Colin Archer "skøyter." Regards, Stein.
